bonobo LLCは、着物に込められた時代の物語と美意識を現代アートとして再構築するikasuを展開しております。このたび、株式会社グローバルエージェンツが運営するライフスタイルホテル THE LIVELY 東京麻布十番 とのコラボレーションとして、2026年5月1日（金）から5月31日（日）まで、ホテル2階の共用ラウンジ 「LIVERALLY」 を会場に、ikasuの着物アップサイクル・アート展を開催いたします。

本展では、新作44点を含む計53点を展示いたします。テーマは「都市の夜ににじむ光と色彩」。テキスタイルアーティスト 岡本レーナが、ホテルラウンジの空間に着想を得て制作した、静けさの中に宿る華やかさを、素材と色彩のレイヤーで重ね合わせた作品群です。作品によっては、アンティークの桐たんすを額材とするなど、ikasuが掲げる「オールアップサイクル」表現の一端もお楽しみいただけます。

 

会期中は、通常宿泊者向けのラウンジ 「LIVERALLY」が一般の方にも開放され、入場無料・予約不要で作品をご覧いただけます。本展示に加え、館内では春の雰囲気を感じられるフラワーアートの展示も予定されており、宿泊の有無にかかわらず、「旅の途中で出会うアート」としてぜひお立ち寄りください。

役目を終えた着物に、新たな価値と物語を吹き込むikasu

日本の家庭には、役目を終えた着物や帯が数多く眠っています。しかし、着用機会の減少や保管の難しさから、次世代へ受け継がれず廃棄されるケースも少なくありません。ikasuは、こうしたアンティークの着物や帯・家具を素材として活用し、一点一点が持つ歴史や記憶を尊重しながら、現代的なテキスタイルアートとして再構築しています。

The Quiet of Enough | 足ることの静けさ

移り変わりの速さが、当たり前になっていると感じます。

新しさが次々と求められ、古いものは静かにその場を譲っていきます。

けれどもテキスタイルには、人の手の感触や日々の気配、言葉にされなかった記憶が、かたちを変えずに留まり続けています。

 

私は、物が簡単には手に入らない環境で育ちました。

食べ物も、服も、道具も、すり減るまで使いました。

穴が開けば繕い、汚れが落ちなければ雑巾にし、朽ちたものさえ土に返し、次の命を育てました。

 

何も無駄にしませんでした。無駄にはできませんでした。

 

だから、アップサイクルという言葉は、私にとって装飾ではなく、「終わりではない」と受け止めるための考え方です。

多くを持つことや速さを求めることは、いつの間にか人から余白を奪っていきます。

その余白が失われていくことに、息苦しさを覚えます。

 

だからこそ、ときには立ち止まり、「足る」という感覚に立ち返ることが必要だと思っています。

 

作品は何かを訴えるためではなく、ふと目に入った瞬間に、呼吸が整うような存在であってほしい。

そのような在り方を願っています。

ikasu について

着物に第二の人生を。

長い時間を生きてきた着物というテキスタイルには、各時代の美意識や、磨き上げられた染織の技術、そして人の手による営みが積み重なっています。

 

しかし今、その多くが「着るもの」としての役目を終え、静かにしまい込まれています。

守られているように見えながら、実際には触れられることも、使われることもなく、人の暮らしから距離を置かれています。

 

それは保存というよりも、時間が止められてしまった状態に近いのではないかと感じました。

 

なぜ、この蓄積された美や技術が、過去のものとして閉じられてしまうのか。

なぜ、人の目や手から遠ざかっていくのか。

 

ikasuの活動は、この問いを起点としています。

着物を素材として捉え直し、時間に縛られない存在として再び立ち上げること。

「時間を超えて在り続ける存在」として再構築する試みです。

ikasu to hold Kimono Upcycle Art Exhibition at Lifestyle Hotel “THE LIVELY TOKYO AZABUJUBN”

 

53 pieces on display and for sale, including 44 new works

bonobo LLC operates ikasu, a project that reconstructs the historical narratives and aesthetic sensibilities embedded in kimonos into contemporary art. In collaboration with THE LIVELY TOKYO AZABUJUBN, a lifestyle hotel operated by Global Agents Co., Ltd., ikasu will hold a Kimono Upcycle Art Exhibition from May 1 (Friday) to May 31 (Sunday), 2026, at the hotel’s 2nd-floor communal lounge, “LIVERALLY”.

 

A total of 53 works, including 44 brand-new pieces, will be exhibited. The theme of the exhibition is “Light and Color Bleeding into the Urban Night”. Textile artist Lena Okamoto was inspired by the hotel lounge’s atmosphere to create a collection that layers materials and colors to express a sense of splendor residing within stillness. Some works utilize antique kiri (paulownia) chests as frames, showcasing ikasu’s “all-upcycled” philosophy.

 

During the exhibition period, the “LIVERALLY” lounge—usually reserved for hotel guests—will be open to the general public. Admission is free and no reservations are required. In addition to this exhibition, the hotel will feature spring-themed flower art installations. We invite everyone to stop by and experience “Art encountered on a journey,” regardless of whether you are staying at the hotel.

ikasu breathes new value and stories into kimonos that have served their purpose

In Japanese households, many kimonos and sashes (obi) lie dormant, having fulfilled their original roles. Due to fewer opportunities to wear them and the difficulty of preservation, they are often discarded rather than passed down to the next generation.

ikasu utilizes these antique kimonos, sashes, and even furniture as raw materials. While respecting the history and memories inherent in each piece, ikasu reconstructs them into contemporary textile art.

“THE LIVELY” is a lifestyle hotel brand that views hotels as “places where people, information, and opportunities gather from all over the world.” This time, in the lounge of the Azabu Juban hotel—a space for interaction open to the city—we will be showcasing new works that align with the image of “urban nights.” We aim to create a cultural hub where the space and the artwork resonate with each other, making it an easily accessible experience for local residents as well as those interested in hotels and kimono expression.

The Quiet of Enough

I feel that the rapid pace of change has become our “normal”. The new is constantly demanded, and the old quietly steps aside. Yet, within textiles, the touch of human hands, the atmosphere of daily life, and unspoken memories remain unchanged.

I grew up in an environment where things were not easily obtained. Food, clothes, and tools were used until they were worn out. If a hole appeared, we mended it; if a stain wouldn’t come out, it became a rag; even decayed items were returned to the soil to nurture the next life. Nothing was wasted.

To me, the word “upcycle” is not a decoration; it is a way of thinking that allows me to accept that something is “not the end”. Seeking speed and more possessions often robs people of “blank space” (yohaku) in their lives. I feel a sense of suffocation as that space disappears. That is why I believe it is necessary to stop and return to the sense of “enough” (taru).

I do not want my works to scream a message; I want them to be a presence where your breathing settles the moment they catch your eye. That is the kind of existence I strive for.
