Ryan Gander’s You Complete Me, or I see things you can’t see (A Frog’s Tale) joins permanent display
UESHIMA MUSEUM（https://ueshima-museum.com）は、イギリスの現代アーティストであるライアン・ガンダーによる作品《You Complete Me, or I see things you canʼt see (A Frog’s Tale)》（2025）を、常設展示に新たに加えました。
一見すると何気なく置かれた植物の鉢ですが、その前を通りがかると、どこからともなく子どもの声が聞こえてきます。声の出どころを探して身を屈めると、鉢の葉陰から一匹のカエルが姿を現します。
本作は、人工植物、アニマトロニクスによって動くカエル、音声によって構成されたインスタレーション作品です。カエルは人間の意識や認知、感覚について語りながら、「人間は答えを覚えるのではなく、自ら問いを立てる力を得るべきだ」と私たちに問いかけます。
カエルの声は、制作当時6歳だったアーティストの息子によるものです。
愛らしい声とは裏腹に、語られる内容は私たちの思考や世界の見方を揺さぶるものとなっています。

UESHIMA MUSEUM (https://ueshima-museum.com) is pleased to announce the addition of You Complete Me, or I see things you can’t see (A Frog’s Tale) (2025), a work by British contemporary artist Ryan Gander, to its permanent display.
At first glance, the work appears to be an ordinary potted plant. Yet as visitors walk past, a child’s voice can suddenly be heard. Curious to find its source, one leans closer—only to discover a small frog emerging from the leaves.
The installation combines an artificial plant, an animatronic frog, and recorded sound. As the frog speaks about human consciousness, perception, and the senses, it reflects on a simple yet profound idea: that humans should not merely learn answers, but develop the ability to ask their own questions.
The frog’s voice was recorded by the artist’s son when he was six years old. While gentle and childlike, the words spoken invite visitors to reconsider how we think and how we perceive the world around us.

UESHIMA MUSEUMは、UESHIMA MUSEUM COLLECTIONのオーナーである植島幹九郎の母校でもあり、「自調自考」を基本目標に国際的な視野や高い倫理観を重視した教育を行う事で高い評価を受けている、渋谷教育学園の敷地内に位置します。また、当美術館の建物は、1988年に設立され、翌年9月に当時の英国首相であった故マーガレット・サッチャー氏同席のもと開校式の行われたブリティッシュ・スクール・イン・東京が2023年8月まで利用していた建物をリノベーションの上、開館致しました。

**About UESHIMA MUSEUM**
UESHIMA MUSEUM is located on the grounds of Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen, the alma mater of UESHIMA COLLECTION owner Kankuro Ueshima. It is highly regarded for its emphasis on international perspective and high ethical standards in education under the fundamental goal of “Seek and Think for Oneself.” (“Jicho-Jiko”) The museum’s building, named “Ueshima Tower, Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen”, was renovated from the former British School in Tokyo, which was established in 1988 and held its opening ceremony in September of the following year in the presence of the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The British School in Tokyo was utilized until August 2023 and was reopened after renovation.

Founder of “UESHIMA MUSEUM COLLECTION”, born in Chiba prefecture, Japan in 1979. Ueshima graduated from Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen Makuhari Senior High School in 1998, then enrolled in the Natural Sciences I at the University of Tokyo. While attending the Faculty of Engineering, he started his own business and has since developed a diversified business as an entrepreneur and investor.
